Doomed Planet

4 min read
There is no doubt that humans are damaging the earth's environments and the ecosystems. There are many species that are going extinct and have gone extinct. The air and oceans are being poisoned by all sorts of chemicals, byproducts, sewege, radiation, etc.

It is true that many places are affected by drought, but these places have almost always had drought problems. There is mention of drought throughout history. It's not a new thing. It is a major concern for people in places that are affected by it, however, it's not yet a global crisis. It might become one some day, but it's difficult to predict what changes to various regions in the world actually indicate on a global scale. The earth has been around 4 and a half billion years. Scientific data records of climate and environmental changes, sea levels, and more advanced scientific data gathering has only taken place since the 1800s. A hundred years or so is hardly a large enough cross-section of data to fully understand the changes to the earth.

I don't know what will happen because of it, but exploding nuclear bombs on the earth is certainly bad for it, especially for whatever exists in the area of the explosion. Poisoning the world with chemicals, destorying forests, and stripping the earth of everything it has to give can only lead to trouble. How long we have before it renders the earth uninhabitable is difficult to determine. I have to say that the damage to the other is mostly fueled by greed from my understanding.

Answers to questions (not in order):

1- Do you incorporate any water-saving techniques in your day-to-day life? If so, we’d love to hear what they are!

I do my best not waste anything (including time, but I'm absolutely horrible at that, being the major procrastinator that I am). I don't know any water saving techniques except, uh, not leaving the water on when not in use... I flush after every use of the toilet, I just gotta.

3- One solution to water woes used in different regions worldwide are so-called “rain taxes” that charges building owners for excess rainwater. What’s the water situation like where you’re at? Are there any special restrictions or preventative steps being taken to regulate usage?

My area has plenty of water, lots of snowfall, and terribly cold winters. Bitter with sweet I guess.

2-
In your opinion, which is a more effective strategy for dealing with resource shortages on Earth: creating solutions through conservation and renewal, or exploring other potential homes for our species throughout the universe?

Now, this question is the one I find the most interesting. It is a very complex problem in all ways. We absolutely must create solutions for conservation and renewal and find ways to protect the planet from the greed that happens to be destroying it. This is only a short-term solution for another major problem:  The sun and the rest of the universe.

The state of the solar system is not permanent. We are lucky to be in a system capable of sustaining life at all. We are in constant danger of random cosmic threats, such as meteors, asteroids and all sorts of other phenomena we have yet to discover (aliens? wormholes?).

The sun will expand and swallow mercury and venus, but even if earth escapes the supergiant phase of sol, it will be burned to a crisp. The moon might cause earth to tilt and this will cause all sorts of fatal problems. Earth's core might die and this will cause fatal problems. Even if the sun won't kill the earth, it will die, and we can't survive without it. One way or the other, the earth is doomed.

Doomed.

Doomed.

Doomed.

The dilemma:  We must protect our world, if we are to survive at all. We must find a way out of the solar system or some other way to survive. Scientific research may be the only way to save us from the inevitable end to our world. We need to expand our knowledge of the universe. We need new technologies. We need warp drive. Wormhole technology. Time travel. Food synthesis, air and water synthesis, teleportaion, artificial intelligence, super computers, energy shields, phasers, stasis chambers (for the long journey through space and time).

There is no doubt that the earth is doomed. It seems like something very far off, but it is inevitable, we have to yet to see if it also means the end of humanity.

There are some gifts that arrive at very interesting times in one's life.
I was given a 12 month premium membership to deviantart.

What did I do to receive such a nice gift? I spoke.

I spoke my heart about Star Trek on techgnotic's journal: Disney Buys Star Trek

I just received a call from “Gary Seven.”
DeviantArt has many surprisingly well-connected members and one of them, a top Paramount executive, contacted us two days ago with a rumor so powerful that we wanted to be 100% certain before publishing it. We now know

My words were:

"Star Trek and Star Wars exist in very different fictional realities. They belong to different genre's, different styles, and have no relation whatsoever to each other in any concept, characters, story-telling, philosophy or anything else at all.

Star Trek is in the genre science fiction. Star Wars is in the genre fantasy. It is true that Star Wars has some elements of science fiction in it's stories and films, however, the science fiction concepts presented in Star Wars are less based on a creative scientific possibility than they are based on a convenient premise for the setting of it's dramatic fantasy story.

An important example of the divergence of concepts is in the core space travel technology available in either universe. In Star Wars, intergalactic travel is achieved with hyper-drive which allow the ships to travel at light speed. Star Trek was far more inventive and went around the known impossibilty of traveling at light speed with the concept of warp drive. Warp drive is a far more complicated concept than light speed. It is based on known scientific knowledge of relativity, gravity and warped space. Star Trek goes to great lengths to make this a realistic technology as part of the reality that contains the story and in which interactions between characters and technological elements becomes an acceptable device for the story. In Star Wars the technology is present but not at all the focus and very little actually happens with it. Nor is scientific discovery, exploration, or even problems with technology ever the focus. There is no reasonable way to consolidate these two technologies in the same universe without drastically altering the nature of one or the other.

Speaking of exploration and discovery, they are the very heart and soul of the Stark Trek universe, although, many movies and shows go more into inter-galactic conflicts than into exploration and discovery. The voyage into the unknown, the development of our species, and the possible social, political, economic and governmental evolution (presented in the most positive light imagineable). Star Trek is about possibilities in a solid science fictional framework.

The core of Star Wars is a force known as, "the force." It is the central concept. The force is almost like a supernatural power that binds all things in the universe. It can be sensed and utilized by various species, yet there is no technology that exists that can detect, measure, or use it. The force is not only a power to be used but is the basis for a creed. In that universe it is the one true religion. Conflicts within Star Wars are almost always based around the light and dark side of the force and the fight to maintain balance between the two. It is a mirror of many earthbound philosphies and concepts and can be taken metaphorically as a struggle within humanity.

The introduction of Star Trek into the Star Wars universe is a seriously creativity deprived idea, but one that would not harm the Star Wars realm because the force is the one true reality of the universe. Whatever technology or species thrust at Star Wars, the force is sure to handle it. However, the Star Trek universe is sure to be altered if it ever discovered anything as powerful and ultimate as the force. That would be just about it for Star Trek. There is no way that they could just go on like nothing happened.

            Scenario:

"It turns out that all things are connected by this invisible force in the universe, Spock," said James Tiberius Kirk.

"It is truly an epiphany, Jim. I am overcome with emotion despite myself," said Spock.

"An epiphany? Spock, this is the greatest discovery we've ever made!"

"It is remarkable, yet I fear that it is far more dangerous than anything we've faced before..."

The force would change everything for Star Trek. The discovery of the ultimate truth is too much for something that is based on the search for it. The timelines also collide terribly as Star Wars takes place a long time ago. Star Trek takes place in our future. Even if elements of Star Wars existed in Star Trek, it wouldn't contain the same characters from the movies as they'd all be dead unless they were frozen in carbonite for eons.

"A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away..." - Fantasy Fairytale

"To boldly go where no one has gone before..." - Science Fiction exploration experiment.

Nice April Fool's prank. I could truly believe something like this could happen.

And the biggest nerd award goes to..."

I really had no idea there was a real prize for being the biggest nerd. But there you have it. Probably the coolest thing to happen to me in months, if not years. I'm not sure if it's sad or simply profound, but yeah, I need more out of life than I usually get.

I hold back usually. I hold back alot. It is a stagnant block.

I need to learn to hold back less. It's difficult to explain why or how I hold back, but I do, and it's debilitating. I need my chi to flow freely.

Chi. Chakra. The Force. Whatever name you have for it.

In the spirit of not holding back, I shall release several works that may or may not be as far as I work on them in particular. I've spent alot of time on "greater" projects that are turning out to be ambitious hell. I still have confidence in them and am searching for new inspirations and developing new skills and growing pathways in my brain to assist with completion. At the same time my process and vision grows, I'll try to post some work.

I appreciate everyone who supports me in anyway. I could always use someone to talk to for any intellectual or philosophical discussion. It really helps inspirationally.

I am taking this gift as a source of inspiration.

Overclock to overload. (I refuse to explain this statement)

*Potential Spoilers for the show Vikings*

A note on something else I find interesting. I chose my name as Vikingheretic randomly. Basically, just put two cool sounding words together, that have seemingly some meaning to them when put together. There is some connection between the meaning of "Viking heretic" and a character on the show Vikings, by the name Athelstan. He was a heretic to both Christians and Vikings. He did question his Christian faith and for a time accepted the Viking gods. It seemed his heart was with the Vikings even if they only saw him as a heretic, save for his friend, Ragnar. I liked his character and appreciated his spiritual journey even if I disagree with his final acceptance of martyrdom. For me, regardless of the strength of his faith, just allowing himself to be killed makes no sense at all. Also, he was such an interesting character;  the real wild card in the show. They should have kept him as a central character and named the show Viking Heretic..... too much?

I don't really have anything in common with Athelston, at all, that's not really why I mention it. Just an incredible coincidence.

Although I made the logo for vikingheretic with some cool vectory graphic, I am changing the profile picture to one that give a bit more rhythm to my mood.
